Connect X / Twitter (direct messages)

Connect X (Twitter) direct messages to Omnifox via OAuth and reply straight from the Inbox.

Jul 11, 2026

This channel brings direct messages (DMs) from your X account into the Omnifox Inbox, so you can handle that platform alongside every other channel from one place.

Requirements

  • An X account with developer access enabled for direct messages
  • The "Manage channels" permission in Omnifox

Steps to connect

  1. In Omnifox, go to Channels → Connect New Channel and pick X / Twitter DMs.
  2. Click Connect with X — you're redirected to X's authorization screen (OAuth 2.0 with PKCE).
  3. Log in with the X account that will receive the DMs and accept the requested permissions (reading and sending direct messages).
  4. X sends you back to Omnifox; the channel is active and ready to receive conversations.

Configuration

The entire authorization runs through OAuth — there are no tokens to copy by hand. Behind the scenes, Omnifox uses X's v2 API to send messages and subscribes to inbound DM events to receive them.

Example

Someone sends a DM to your X account asking about a product. That message lands in the Omnifox Inbox as an X conversation, and the agent replies from there without ever opening the X app.

Tips

  • X's API rate limits vary by your developer access tier; if you notice send delays, check your access plan at developer.x.com.
  • Each X account connects as its own channel — if you manage several brands, you'll need one channel per account.

Troubleshooting

  • Authorization fails or expires: X periodically reissues the webhook verification challenge; if you see intermittent errors, reconnect the channel from Omnifox.
  • No new DMs arriving: confirm the authorized account has direct messages open to everyone, or at least to the people writing to you.
