Track Click-to-WhatsApp (CTWA) ads: which ad a contact came from

When someone messages you from a Meta ad with a 'Send message' button, Omnifox stores which ad that contact came from and shows it to you.

Meta's Click-to-WhatsApp (CTWA) ads take a person straight into a WhatsApp chat with your business via a "Send message" button. Omnifox automatically captures that ad's data on the first message the contact sends, so you know where they came from without any external tool.

What gets captured

  • The ad's headline and body text.
  • The ad's image or thumbnail.
  • A link back to the original ad.
  • Meta's click identifier (ctwa_clid), so you can cross-reference it with your Meta Ads reports if needed.

Where to check it

On the contact's page (Contacts → [contact]), if the first inbound message carried referral data, you'll see a "Came from ad" card with the headline, a text excerpt, the image, and a "View ad" link.

Example

A new contact writes "Hi, I want info on the summer combo" after tapping an Instagram ad. Their contact page shows the card with the combo's image, the ad's headline, and a link to review it in Ads Manager.

Tips

  • This data only arrives on the first message after the click — Meta doesn't repeat it on later messages, which is why Omnifox saves it the moment it arrives.
  • It's useful for the agent handling the chat to know exactly which promotion triggered the contact before replying.

Troubleshooting

If a contact clearly came from an ad but you don't see the "Came from ad" card, Meta didn't attach the referral object on that particular message — this can happen depending on the device or app the customer used to tap the ad.
