WhatsApp display name: approval and statuses
The name your customers see on WhatsApp goes through a Meta review. Here's how approval works and what to do if it's pending or rejected.
The display name is what your contacts see as the sender on WhatsApp — for example "Don Luis Bakery" instead of a phone number. Meta reviews that name before it becomes visible across every conversation.
How approval works
When you connect or change the name of a WhatsApp Cloud API number, Meta puts it under review. That review status (name_status) syncs automatically into Omnifox every few minutes, alongside the number's quality rating and messaging tier.
Where to check it
Under Channels, open the WhatsApp channel and check the profile/health tab: it shows the verified name and its current status.
Example
A company connects its number and requests the name "Andean Shoes". While Meta reviews it, customers may still see the phone number as the sender; once approved, "Andean Shoes" starts showing on every new and existing conversation.
Tips
- Use your business's real, recognizable name — generic names, excessive emojis, or names that don't match your actual brand are more likely to be rejected by Meta.
- Review can take anywhere from minutes to a couple of days.
Troubleshooting
If the name gets rejected, check that it matches your legal or recognizable business name and resubmit it from Meta's WhatsApp Manager; if you're unsure how to retry, contact Omnifox support.
