Send interactive buttons and lists from the composer
Build messages with quick-reply buttons or option lists so the customer can choose with a single tap.
WhatsApp's interactive message lets you offer the customer choices they can tap instead of typing free text. There are two formats: Reply Buttons (up to 3 buttons) and List Message (a dropdown list with sections).
Requirements
- Only available on WhatsApp channels with the feature enabled on your plan.
- The 24-hour window must be open.
Limits per format
- Body: 1 to 1024 characters (required).
- Header and footer: optional, up to 60 characters each.
- Reply Buttons: 1 to 3 buttons, each title up to 20 characters, all distinct from each other.
- List Message: up to 10 sections, up to 10 rows total across all sections, each row with a title (up to 24 characters, unique across the whole message) and an optional description (up to 72 characters). The button text that opens the list (CTA) is also configurable.
Steps
- In the composer, open the WhatsApp Interactive Message button.
- Choose the Reply Buttons or List Message tab.
- Fill in the message body and, if you want, header and footer.
- Add the buttons or sections/rows depending on the chosen format.
- Check the WhatsApp-style preview on the right side of the modal.
- Click Send.
Example
A restaurant wants the customer to pick an order type. It uses Reply Buttons with the body "How would you like your order?" and three buttons: "Delivery", "Pickup", "Dine in". The customer taps one and that choice comes back as a reply in the chat.
Troubleshooting
If the system flags a duplicate-title error, check that no button or row shares the same text as another — WhatsApp requires unique names across the whole message.
